Meet the Team

Sew Much Hope is powered by a small team of volunteers who believe a sewing machine can change a life.

Gino Rich

Founder

Gino has spent decades scouring pawnshops and thrift stores for sewing machines worth saving. He repairs them, converts many to hand crank for places without electricity, and has never taken a dollar for it. He works with humanitarian groups to set up sewing classes wherever the machines land. He still sews on the $7.50 treadle he bought forty years ago.

Keith Longhurst

President and Director

Keith is an engineer in food manufacturing and a longtime church volunteer. He joined Sew Much Hope in 2024 to refurbish machines and now runs the business side: shipping, placement, finances, and the relationships with the nonprofits who carry machines overseas.

Steve Whitehouse

Board Member

Steve was born in Yokosuka, Japan, served as a missionary in Belgium and France, and graduated from BYU. His career ran through WordPerfect, Novell, FamilySearch and BYU. He has served on the board of Timpanogos Academy, helped found Karl G. Maeser Preparatory Academy, and is CEO of Africompassion.

David Gerber

Refurbishing Operations Director

David refurbishes every sewing machine donated to Sew Much Hope. Each one gets cleaned, repaired and tested on his bench until it runs the way it should.

With help from a few local volunteers, he also builds the wooden box each machine sets into, usually in place of a treadle table. That makes every machine a complete, independent piece of equipment a family can set on any table and put to work.

Angela Watters

Social Media

Angela runs Sew Much Hope's social media. She shares the stories and photos that come back from the families who receive machines, along with what is happening in the workshop on work nights in Lehi.

Her goal is to help more people find their place in this work, whether that means donating a machine, volunteering, carrying a machine overseas or giving.

Bill Hind

Head of Accounting

After graduating from the University of Utah, Bill sat for and passed the CPA exam. He went on to work in accounting, mainly for a large international industrial company, for over 40 years. Along the way he volunteered and served in several leadership positions in his church.

Bill loves to stay busy, whether it's accounting or working with his hands remodeling, building and fixing things. His life has been full of service to his family and everyone around him. He recently joined the Sew Much Hope team and is excited to contribute to the cause.

Eric Isaacson

Web Developer

Eric runs a web development business in Idaho. He built and maintains the website to help connect donors, partners and volunteers.

The Refurbishing Crew

Behind our core team is a crew of volunteers, including service missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who show up on work nights in Lehi to clean, oil, test and pack. Some have been coming for years. Some came once to see what it was about and never left.
